Lung Surgery

Lung surgery is often performed to get a more complete view of inside the lungs and treat lung problems. If a mass or tumor is discovered in the lungs, surgery can help determine the location and cause through a biopsy. If the mass needs to be removed, the surgeon can also determine how much of the lung needs to be taken out as well. Lung surgery is done by either thoracoscopy (a minimally invasive technique using small incisions), or thoracotomy (an open chest technique which requires a larger incision).
